The Most Powerful Characteristic to Possess

Recently, I received a great piece of insight from Dan Kennedy and I felt I couldn’t let it go by without a comment or two. If you read it at the time that’s great, and I’m sure it’s impacted you as it has me and made you and me think harder about the subject. If you haven’t read it then listen up, because it’s the most important success secret of all time.

This particular trait is the greatest success characteristic common to the leaders of today, the future and the past. It’s the success secret, regardless of your political persuasion, that is possessed by PM John Howard. I mean, here’s a man that was literally gone for all money, not only within his own party at various times but if you are to believe statistics at the time, the electorate as well

He has literally performed Houdini tricks from situations that would at first glance appear to be hopeless. And that is his ability to GET THE JOB DONE under difficulty and crisis. So the greatest success characteristic is the ability to HANDLE CRISIS.

If you think about it for a moment you will find it is this common characteristic that is unique to super successful business people, super successful professional athletes, super successful sports coaches, super successful sales people and super successful leaders of society.

Today we are more scrutinised in what we do than I suspect any other time in history and as individuals who are committed to living a life profoundly “different” to the mediocre majority, then your turn to deal with a crisis is inevitable. It’s not a question of whether it will happen, it’s merely a question of when and how you will deal with it.

I’ll admit in a business career that spans more than 30 years I’ve had my share of crisis to deal with. And on reflection, I believe I handled them well although obviously I’d RATHER DO WITHOUT THEM. So the thought process for you may be… firstly consider the likely impact of everything you do in business, NOT after you do it but BEFORE, secondly, what you can do to protect yourself in the likely event that something will come unstuck and finally, how will you deal with it in a personal and business sense when it does happen.

I believe it’s important in a crisis that you REMOVE EMOTION and deal with the crisis in a level headed sequential manner, thereby gathering the FACTS and then determining the all important OUTCOME you wish to attain, and then, and only then, can you determine how to set about ACHIEVING that outcome.

That outcome may require some form of compromise on your part. Something that may need to give it’s life but will ultimately see your outcome achieved. IT WILL BE HOW YOU DEAL WITH CRISIS that determines your level of success.

Best regards

Mal
