Yo did an excellent job of breaking the cycle on your own and changing it to the opposite :-) I feel sorry for you having to put up with all that stuff when you were young, that's not fair at all. I can see your point about how you understand how your father ended up like that. As they say, we learn by modelling, and when your Dad was young, he had a drill sergent in charge of him (his Dad), and he modelled him. He totally modelled the wrong person but I guess with him being a kid back then, he didn't have anyone else to model huh, so I understand how you understand how he turned out like that. I wonder why the grandfather was a tyrant, because it really all started with him huh, the tyranny. What a shame you had to go through that, it's not fair at all huh, but it's great and excelelnt that you are out of that now and through the other side, and you never have to go through that again :-) Congratulations once again on your new bride, she is beautiful!
