To Most Folk, a Holiday Is a Big Event.
There will be no Weekly Nudge next week, because I’m off for the next 10 days or so on a working holiday on the East Coast.
I call it a working holiday because I’ve got 3 highly paid speaking engagements to do, and while I’m there in Sydney I’ve got about 100 showing up for a 3 hour evening seminar as well.
Thing is, to most folk a holiday is a big event. For me it isn’t. Why? Because I actually like my business life. For most business owners that’s not the case however. I find it interesting when people don’t like theirs yet still do nothing about it, even insist that they can’t. In the past week or so, I’ve listened to a few different people complain about where they live or work or work with, and yet they conclude with “But I’m stuck here!”
Reality is, I don’t think so. Every city has sign posts on highways telling you how to get out. Fast if you like. They’ll even direct you to the airport. You have feet, not roots. No job is compulsory. No annoying customer or client or patient needs to be kept.
Nor does an annoying staff member or for that matter family member. Everything is a choice. Quit whinging and tell everybody else to stop whinging too!
Most folks see the vacation as a really big deal because they are desperate to escape their regular life. Many have made that worse for themselves by an umbilical cord plugged into non-stop stress and anxiety, plugged into email, mobile phones, headsets, beepers, wireless internet and the like.
In today’s world, it’s hard not to justify some of the above, but it’s a big mistake to stay constantly plugged in wherever you are. You need to recharge and refresh! So I’m going to be doing that next week at a health retreat in the Hunter Valley. So more from me, from less of me later!!!!
Best regards
Mal
