Get Rich Quick and No Work Is a False God to Worship
You have heard that old cliché… if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Well in my experience that’s true, no one I know has ever REALLY got rich quickly, even though it may appear that money has been made fast.
On closer examination you’ll find that these folk who suddenly seem to have “found the money” have been working at it for years. They have experienced obstacles, disappointments and hard work along the way.
People seem to want there to be a straight line to success, well unfortunately it’s a wavy line. In fact, in some cases massive zigs and zags. The name of the game is to make the size of the zigs and zags tighter and to have small dips and troughs, be constantly adjusting your efforts to achieve success faster.
I advocate blurring the line between hard work, passion and pleasure. That’s the life I get to live, I love business, marketing and entrepreneurs. None of this is work for me, although I wouldn’t do it for free. I can’t make a case for solving people’s problems for free, firstly there must be an exchange of value, in this case my knowledge and the know-how acquired over 35 years of expensive experience and on the other hand, the money clients pay me for speed and accuracy.
Believe it or not most people made their fortune in ordinary every day business, it didn’t happen via some new idea or breakthrough. This is all confirmed in a book entitled “The Millionaire Next Door”. This is why I believe that ordinary every day business operating as extraordinary is still the best way to make a fortune in Australia today.
The Fortune 500 magazine, last years study 400 Billionaires and would you believe 170 of them literally started their Billion dollars business in their garage. Another 100 started with smaller amount of money. It doesn’t necessary take money to make money…so don’t let a lack of money stop you.
Something else you might get comfort from is the fact that most millionaires made their millions after they turn fifty, so it seems there is still hope if you haven’t figured it out yet. It just goes to prove there is no straight line to success.
All the best,
Mal Emery

True. The Get Rich Quick approach focuses on “opportunity selling”, building a business requires a different mindset and a systematic approach. Once you’ve got the system right it’s a matter of rinse & repeat

Hello Mal Emery, how are you going?
This is all so very true what you said!! It reminds me of a quote from a Felix Dennis book. He says “there are many roads that lead to riches, few in sunlight, most in ditches” He also says “The secret: just do it, and bluff your way through it, remember to duck, good speed and good luck”:-)

Hi Mal,
How very true is your article about the “get rich quick and no work is a false god to worship”. I can say with qualification it is hard work, logical thinking and systematic thought process that will get you through. Perserverance is another factor! thank you again for your well informed articles.
